Grapes and hops…

Well – I can hardly believe this…

Look - the grapes are turning purple...

Look – the grapes are turning purple…

… the grapes have started to ripen and are looking glorious.  Please can we have some more sunshine???

Here you can see the hops growing in amongst the vine and they are flowering too…

Grapes and hops.... you can just see the purple grapes...

Grapes and hops…. you can just see the purple grapes…

… the vine is now partly inside our bathroom window clinging onto the window catch – I daren’t move it or cut it – the whole vine might fall down!  Mind you, I guess the whole window could be pulled out too…. what a choice 🙂

Happy happy days….

On a stormy afternoon…

… what else to do but decorate my new greenhouse with bunting and plant my winter cabbages…

Bunting flying...

Bunting flying…

It hadn’t really occurred to me that playing in the greenhouse was a perfect way to spend time when its raining!

I have some lettuce seeds to plant and I am going to start some pots of bulbs in the greenhouse for bringing indoors later in the winter.  I am going to plant some dwarf beans called “Speedy” which I think should be cropping in the autumn… I have high hopes!

Happy days…

Baby grapes…

What potential....

What potential….

Just look at these!!! I am delighted 🙂  Last year we had ONE small bunch and that was like magic – but this year the vine has gone bonkers.  I didn’t do anything special – I have no idea how to prune it and so it was just left to its own devices over winter.

It covers part of the front of our house and this is a view through the upstairs bathroom window (thats why its a bit blurred – the window needs a clean).  The main stem of the vine has tendrils that are curling round the window handle on the inside of the window.  This happened during last summer when the windows were all open – and if I remove it, the whole vine will probably collapse… and so there it stays, connected to our bathroom (and that is also my excuse for not being able to clean the window!)

The one bunch we had last year turned purple and was sweet enough to eat but each grape had loads of seeds.  If these ripen I will be thrilled to bits!  Stay tuned….

Happy days…

PS – my greenhouse is being delivered today – I am SO excited!

July flowers…

Sedum flower

Sedum flower

Isn’t this pretty?  I am so pleased this little thing is in flower… not sure exactly what it is mind you… is it a Sedum?   I think the insides of the flowers look like little crowns.   I planted it in a pot next to the porch window where it gets sun most of the day (except today – it started to rain as soon as I got my camera out).

Still working on my scrappy trip quilt but I am not sure how big to make it.  If I could decide exactly where it will hang that might help me decide on its size 🙂  Hmmm…. or shall I make another bed quilt?  Decisions, decisions…

Cheers…
